Disclaimer Regarding My Involvement
Just to set the record straight, if you want to use a guide and a Jon boat, I do not charge anything for making the arrangements nor do I receive any part of what you will be paying the guide if you go fishing with them in their Jon boats. (Well, other than good will from the friends I make among my local neighbors. I have built my home in Arenosa and live there.) Furthermore, it does not matter to me whether the group goes with the guide in his boat or they use my pontoon boat. I am more than happy to help in either case. Just let me know which you prefer to use. Yes, if the guide uses my pontoon boat, I do get part of this money, but realistically, by the time the guide takes his cut and I pay for fuel what's left only offsets some of my expenses for maintenance and upgrades on the pontoon boat. The main reason I help with is that there are no telephone lines in Arenosa, cell phone reception is spotty at best and there is only one public telephone. Relaying messages through the public phone to whoever may answer is tricky at best. Therefore, my wife Nidia and I try to help out in any way we can. Obviously these local guides need all the help they can get. The other reason is that we get to meet some nice people and show off our little part of Panama along the way. That said, do not call me at 5:00 AM on the morning you decide you want to go fishing. Give me at least a couple days notice so I can get up with a guide and help make the arrangements for you. :-) Remember, if you want to go on a Saturday or Sunday, they are their busiest days.
